New Delhi: On Sunday, President Droupadi Murmu commemorated the brave souls who perished during the tragic Jallianwala Bagh massacre of 1919, emphasizing that India will forever be grateful for their sacrifices.
This day marks the anniversary of a horrific event where British troops opened fire on peaceful demonstrators opposing the Rowlatt Act, which imposed harsh restrictions on the Indian populace, resulting in numerous casualties in Amritsar's Jallianwala Bagh.
In her heartfelt message shared on X, Murmu stated, “I extend my respectful homage to all the freedom fighters who laid down their lives for our nation at Jallianwala Bagh. Their sacrifices have fortified our struggle for independence. A thankful India will always honor their memory.”
She expressed her belief that inspired by these immortal martyrs, citizens will continue to dedicate themselves to the advancement of India.
